DoodleBob originates from an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants titled “Frankendoodle”, though he also appears in the episode “Doodle Dimension” as well as multiple SpongeBob SquarePants video games, comics, and books. Drawn by SpongeBob using the Magic Pencil, DoodleBob typically acts as an antagonist, although SpongeBob at the end of “Frankendoodle” claims he was not evil, but rather, a 2D creature lost in a 3D world.

The Fraymakers adaption of DoodleBob is being worked on by Starturbo. Updates related to the mod are often shared to his Twitter account or various Discord servers, including McLeodGaming's.

Character Overview[]

DoodleBob wasn't designed to fit under a specific archetype, though is now considered to be a zoner due to his many ranged attacks. Overall, his moveset is fairly straightforward with no real gimmicks to speak of.

Moveset[]

Trivia[]

  • The idea to make DoodleBob came from a suggestion by McLeodGaming Discord member Nyon, as the original plan was to make SpongeBob but ultimately DoodleBob was chosen instead as it was simpler.
    • The Flying Dutchman alternate color was also a suggestion by Team Fray member, Ramsey Kaid.
  • When designing DoodleBob's moveset, many specific goals were kept in mind for what should be achieved, which are listed below.
    • Represent the fact he’s a drawing accurately, while not over-relying on the fact.
    • Clearly show his seemingly-evil nature through his animations.
    • Draw from several pieces of media DoodleBob has appeared in.
    • Keep things simple, but not too simple.
    • Make DoodleBob fit into the world of Fraymakers as best as possible.
    • Ideally make his moveset distinct from what we’ve seen of the base cast.
    • Be sure not to pull too much from Smash movesets and such.
    • Perhaps most importantly, make DoodleBob both fun to play as and against.
  • The process of making DoodleBob's animations has varied over time. Most recently, they were being made completely in Aseprite, though Adobe Animate has previously been used as well. Ultimately, the animations are intended to be of a similar quality to the official ones regardless of which tool(s) are used. This is in part why work on DoodleBob has been put on hold until Fraymakers releases, as it's recommended to test animations in-game before completing them.
  • Originally DoodleBob was going to have a much more complex moveset with a shop mechanic not too unlike Shovel Knight in Rivals of Aether, but it was ultimately scaled back with this gimmick being removed.
  • DoodleBob's Fraymakers adaption intentionally avoids referencing unofficial media, as that would likely require getting permission from other creators, which is more than is considered necessary at the moment.
  • DoodleBob already has a planned stage to release alongside him, along with potential music remixes for it. A separate page for it will likely be made soon!
