Captain Toad will be joining Fraymakers via Fraytools at a date to be later revealed. Captain Toad will be made in collaboration with Hivemind, Micro and other individuals to be determined.
Captain Toad originated in the 2007 title "Super Mario Galaxy," where he appeared as a simple Toad with a headlight and backpack. In a later title, Super Mario 3D World, he gained a new appearance and was even playable in certain bonus levels. A core aspect of these levels was that, contrary to most Mario levels, the simple task of jumping is entirely removed. As such, Captain Toad would have to traverse through various different puzzle-like landscapes with lots of enemies and movable parts entirely built around these limitations. The levels were so well received that the captain received his own game in the form of "Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker," which released on the Nintendo Wii U in 2014, and later got ported to the Switch in 2018.
Character Overview[]
In Fraymakers, Captain Toad is a heavyweight character with medium speed. His inability to jump is carried over. But worry not, much like how the levels catered to this inability, so does the Captain's moveset. He may not have standard movement, but the movement he does have surpasses that of most other characters.
Gimmicks[]
Flutter State[]
As stated, prior, Captain Toad can't jump. Pressing the jump button will instead have the captain attempt to jump, even though he'll be held down by his backpack. However, this attempt does allow him to enter a special state for about a half second when you are able to use his aerials, signified by him fluttering his feet underneath himself to try and fly. This is appropriately named his "Flutter State." Some of his aerial attacks will have different properties that allow you to properly get yourself off the ground.
Wall Walking[]
Captain Toad is capable of walking along walls. If you attempt to jump off of a wall, it actually will work! (This one's still up for debate)
Moveset[]
| Move | Description |
|---|---|
| Jab

| Forward Tilt
Pack Whack |
Captain Toad pulls off his backpack and swings it in front of himself. |

Turnip Pluck |

| Dash Attack
Green Star |
Captain Toad falls on his face, halting his momentum as a Green Star tumbles out of his backpack, acting as a projectile. |
| Neutral Air
Galaxy Spin |
Captain Toad does a 360 spin with his backpack encased in cosmic energy. This propels him up slightly. |
| Forward Air
Bob-Omb Bash |
Captain Toad reaches into his backpack and pulls out a Bob-Omb which he swings forward. If this hits an opponent, the Bob-Omb will explode and launch Captain Toad diagonally up and back. If performed in Flutter State, the Bob-Omb will explode on the ground and launch Captain Toad regardless of whether or not it hits an opponent and will also launch Captain Toad more backwards than up. |
| Back Air
Bob-Omb Drop |
A hole appears in the bottom of Captain Toad's Backpack as a flashing red Bob-Omb appears out of it that explodes and launches Captain Toad diagonally forward and up. If performed in Flutter State, it will send Captain Toad more up than forward. |
| Up Air
Propeller Block |
Captain Toad's backpack opens up and a Propeller Block from New Super Mario Bros. Wii flies out, which he grabs onto as it flies up, carrying him along with a spin. This is the only aerial to not change in Flutter State. |
| Down Air
Cannon Boost |
A cannon appears out of the bottom of Captain Toad's backpack and fires a shot... well, not technically. It doesn't fire anything, but the pure force of its firing creates an explosion that propels Captain Toad straight up. In his Flutter State, Captain Toad flies even further upward. |
| Forward Smash
Super Pickaxe |
Captain Toad pulls out his trusty Super Pickaxe and swings it in front of himself. |
| Up Smash
Green Star |
Captain Toad pulls out a Green Star and hoists it above himself. |
| Down Smash
Emergency Spin |
Captain Toad does a quick spin with his backpack hitting on all sides |
| Grab
Piranha Plant |
A Piranha Plant appears out of Captain Toad's backpack and bites directly in front of Captain Toad |
| Forward Throw
Spitfire |
The Piranha Plant spits the opponent out. |
| Back Throw
Piranha Sprout |
The Piranha Plant spits the opponent up and retracts into Captain Toad's backpack as a Piranha Sprout pops out of the ground in front of Toad and fires a shot at the opponent. |
| Up Throw
Mole Headbutt |
A Mole pops out and hits the opponent straight up. It also hits the Piranha Plant, causing it to retract into Captain Toad's backpack. |
| Down Throw
Flaptor Divebomb |
A Flaptor appears out of nowhere, diving straight downwards to hit the opponent as well as the Piranha Plant who disappears in a puff of smoke after being defeated by such a powerful attack. |
| Neutral Special (Ground)
Platform Lever |
Captain Toad reaches into the ground and pulls on a lever that magically appeared there. When he does, a tall rectangular platform appears. This platform comes with walls that Captain Toad can walk on to increase his mobility options. If you press the button, Captain Toad will stand on the platform. If you hold the button, Captain Toad will be launched into the air very high. |
| Neutral Special (Air)
Safety Bubble |
Captain Toad will encase himself in a bubble which maintains his current direction and momentum for up to three seconds (or until you let go of the button). You can also adjust your direction by holding in a direction, but it's a bit slippery like a top-down ice level. |
| Side Special (Ground)
Minecart |
Captain Toad gets in his Minecart and dashes forward. Pressing Jump or Dodge will have the Minecart disappear (CT can’t actually jump out of it though). If he hits an opponent, he’ll knock them forward and also fall out himself, but if he falls off the ledge, it allows for some interesting follow-ups as he can freely act out of it. If the Minecart goes off the ground, you can press Special while in the air and it’ll sprout a glider based on the Super Glider from Mario Kart, allowing you to keep going forward with a small descent, although you can adjust it so that you can fly further with it by holding up, or fall faster by holding down. |
| Side Special (Air)
Super Hang Glider |
Captain Toad pulls out the Super Glider and uses it as a hang glider. It functions exactly like the Minecart does with the Super Glider on it. |
| Up Special
Double Cherry Cannon |
A cannon appears out of the top of Captain Toad’s backpack which acts as a hitbox, picking opponents up. Then, if you press the button, he’ll launch a clone of himself. If you hold the button, he’ll launch himself and the CT you were previously playing as will be revealed to be a clone as it disappears. |
| Down Special (Ground)
Propeller Boost |
Captain Toad creates a fan on the ground that he can walk through to get pushed into the air by its strong currents. This fan will disappear automatically after a certain amount of time. The fan can also affect the Turnip from his Down Tilt and Green Star from his Dash Attack |
| Down Special (Air)
Ground Pound |
Captain Toad falls straight down, without stopping. If he hits an opponent, he’ll bounce off of them, but they’ll be spiked. |
