An Shiraishi is a playable custom character in Fraymakers. She is being created by Mizu, being the first character revealed as their creation. An Shiraishi originates from the mobile video game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, released in 2020 in Japan and 2021 globally. An Shiraishi was finally completed and released on June 19, 2023. After the release of An Shiraishi will be a custom stage based off Vivid Street, the location An spends most of her time performing on the street, as well as being a waitress at her father's cafe, Weekend Garage. This stage is also very early in development.
Description[]
An Shiraishi is a first-year at Kamiyama High, and works as part of the disciplinary committee at said school. She can be seen standing at the front gate of the school, making sure every student is wearing appropriate attire, as well as pointing out any inconsistencies on their clothing, such as wrinkled shirts and ties being misshapen. Despite her placement on the disciplinary committee, she still gets rather nervous when asking someone to follow the rules. Other than being on the disciplinary committe, An is also frequently a stand-in on the basketball team, alongside her childhood friend, Haruka Kiritani. Despite An being 5'3", she's a force to be reckoned with when she's on the court.
Outside of Kamiyama, An can be seen hanging around Scramble Crossing, a huge central area right in the middle of Shibuya, either performing on the street in front of an audience, or spending time talking to her friends, whether with Kohane Azusawa, Haruka Kiritani, Akito Shinonome, or Toya Aoyagi. She can also be seen around Vivid Street, performing at live houses multiple times, whether alone, with Kohane as the Vivids group, or with Kohane, Akito, and Toya as the Vivid BAD SQUAD group. Also on Vivid Street is Weekend Garage, a cafe/live house hybrid run by An's father. She works there as a waitress, and she serves tables, wash dishes, takes orders and make drinks. An also has a hobby of growing different types of mints in her free time.
An's father, Ken Shiraishi, is an incredibly well-known figure in the music community. He was a former musician that performed at the legendary RAD WEEKEND, as he performed with his group RADder. When An watched RAD WEEKEND live, she was so inspired to be like her father. So inspired, in fact, that her main goal in life is to not only hold a legendary event, but one that will surpass RAD WEEKEND itself.
Playstyle[]
An Shiraishi is designed to be a Zone Breaker. Her great ground speed and solid air mobility can be used to help dance around and avoid incoming projectiles targeted towards her. She can then abuse any stationary opponents by rushing towards them and catching them with an attack. An can also use three of her specials to help with the idea of camping. Her neutral special, Hear Me Sing!, can help fight back against incoming projectiles with a projectile of her own. Her down special, The Echo In The Mirror, can help reflect back projectiles targeted towards her. While parrying already has a built in reflector, the upside of her side special is how it's able to be performed in the air, meaning she can fight against camping in the air, as well.
Strengths:
+ An has incredible movement on the ground, able to cover long distances in a short amount of time.
+ Alongside her ground movement is a solid air mobility, being able to move quite fast in the air. This is coupled with a very fast fast fall, with her being able to reach the ground very quickly.
+ An is a rather skinny character, making her something harder to hit and makes her easier to maneuver around opponents.
+ An has a lot of usable combo starters, including Sour Spot Down Tilt, Up Throw, and Neutral Special. This is coupled with a solid damage output.
Weaknesses:
- An is not the heaviest character, as she does struggle to live past high percents.
- While An’s combo game is great, her moves do lack range, as she can struggle with disjoints most times.
- While not exactly terrible, An’s recovery does leave much to be desired. There is also no rising hitbox on the move, making An susceptible to being gimped before she reaches max height.
- While good for damage and positioning, An’s throws are not very strong knock back wise. Her grab range is also rather small.
Moves[]
Ground Attacks[]
| Attack | Animation | Description | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jab | A 3-Hit Combo. An performs a small kick with her left leg as the first attack. She then performs a spin and swings the microphone up for the second attack. Finally, she leans forward and strikes a pose as the final attack. This Jab comes out rather quickly, and does a decent amount of damage. | Jab 1: 2
Jab 2: 2 Jab 3: 4 | |
| Forward Tilt | An leans back, before swinging her microphone up in front of her. This move has great knockback, is disjointed, and can reflect projectiles. | 7 | |
| Up Tilt | An twirls a basketball on her left pointer finger. This attack hits 5 times, with the final hit doing the most damage and knockback. | Hit 1: 0.7
Hit 2: 0.7 Hit 3: 0.7 Hit 4: 0.7 Hit 5: 5 | |
| Down Tilt | An crouches and points in front of her with her left hand. The hitbox is small, but the move has great combo potential if hit on the sour spot, while the sweet spot hits the opponent away. The pose she performs is a reference to the artwork found on the Kohane Azusawa: A Secret Between Us (Untrained) card in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. | Sweet Spot: 5
Sour Spot: 2 | |
| Dash Attack | An runs up and slides across the ground on her knees. The move gets weaker the longer it stays out. | Sweet Spot: 10
Sour Spot: 8 | |
| Forward Strong | An winds her right arm up, before performing an overhead swing, swinging the microphone in front of her. This move has a sweet spot on the tip of the microphone. Similar to Forward Tilt, Forward Strong can also reflect projectiles. | Sweet Spot: 14
Sour Spot: 10 | |
| Up Strong | An grabs a tray of coffee and other drinks and lifts it above her head. The hitbox hits above her, but lacks in side hitboxes, making it rather unsafe against grounded opponents. This move hits twice. | Hit 1: 0.8
Hit 2: 10.3 | |
| Down Strong | An performs a split and strikes a pose, attacking both sides with her legs at the same time. The sweet spot on her feet send at a more horizontal angle. | Sour Spot: 11
Sweet Spot: 12 |
Aerial Attacks[]
| Attack | Animation | Description | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neutral Air | An strikes a pose in the air while pointing forward. This attack has a late hitbox. | 6.5
Late Hit: 5 | |
| Forward Air | An leans back and brings her knees to her chest, before kicking straight forward. This move has a sweet spot located on the tip of her feet. | Sweet Spot: 11.4
Sour Spot: 7 | |
| Back Air | An brings her right arm to her opposite side, before swinging it back around and thrusting her microphone behind her. | Sweet Spot: 10
Sour Spot: 6.8 | |
| Up Air | An brings both of her legs back, before kicking straight up above her. This move has 3 hitboxes: a sweet spot on her shoe, a sour spot on her leg, and an extra one on the smear line that sends outward instead of up. | Sweet Spot: 10
Sour Spot/Smear: 7 | |
| Down Air | An swings her right leg back before swinging it back in front of her as she strikes a pose. The tip of her foot has a meteor effect. | Sweet Spot: 12
Sour Spot: 7 Sour Spot (Late Hit): 5 |
Throws[]
| Attack | Animation | Description | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grab | An grabs forward with her left arm. | ||
| Forward Throw | An brings her right leg back before swinging it in front of her and kicking the opponent forward. | 7.8 | |
| Back Throw | An grabs the opponent with both hands and throws them behind her. | 8 | |
| Up Throw | An grabs the opponent with both hands and throws them above her. | 6 | |
| Down Throw | An grabs the opponent with both hands and brings them behind her. An then leans forward and slams the opponent onto the ground. | 7 |
Special Attacks[]
| Attack | Animation | Description | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neutral Special: Hear Me Sing! | An places her microphone in her left hand and leans forward, singing into the microphone. As she sings, a music note encased in a bubble appears and travels forward slowly. When an opponent touches the music note, they will take damage and be knocked up and away. The pose she performs is a reference to the artwork found on the An Shiraishi: Over The Fence (Untrained) card in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. | 3 | |
| Side Special: Cycle Of Raps | An takes a deep breath in, before striking a pose and singing into her microphone, a shock wave appearing in front of her as she sings. This attack has 3 different variations based off the notes that are used in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage: Tap Wave, Hold Wave, and Flick Wave.
Tap Wave: A simple attack that launches the opponent forward.
|
Tap: 8
Hold: 10 Flick: 9.5 | |
| Up Special: Strike A Pose! | An rises in the air. When she reaches the peak of the up special, she strikes a pose, dealing damage to any opponents around her. This recovery move has great vertical reach, but not much horizontally. | 10 | |
| Down Special:
The Echo In The Mirror |
An holds out her arms in front of her and catches a TV that falls out of the sky. Once she catches it, she thrusts it forward, reflecting any projectiles. This reflector only works in front of her. The name of the move is a reference to a song that An's group, Vivid BAD SQUAD, sings in game, ECHO. | Appear: 5
Disappear: 5 |

Patch Notes[]
Patch 0.0.1 - The Release[]
The Release Patch. Nothing to list here really lol.
Patch 0.0.2 - The "She needed it" patch[]
Despite my intentions for An Shiraishi to not be a problem spot when it comes to Fraymakers battles, it was clear that she was a little underpowered than I intended for her to be. This patch is being made to hopefully alleviate these issues.
(+) = Buff
(-) = Nerf
(~) = Unsure
Attributes:
(+) Weight Increased (82 -> 86)
(+) Aerial Speed Cap slightly increased (7 -> 7.3)
(+) Jump Squat now slightly faster.
Grounded Attacks:
(+) Jab 1: Now transitions into Jab 2 earlier.
(+) Jab 2: Now transitions into Jab 3 earlier.
(+) Up Tilt: Slightly increased multihit damage. (0.5 -> 0.8)
(-) Dash Attack: Increased end lag.
(~) Dash Attack: Shortened travel distance.
While this gives the move less range, it’ll hopefully remove a blind spot towards the beginning of the move.
(+) Dash Attack: Sour Spot Damage slightly increased. (6 -> 8)
(+) Down Smash: Sour spot angle altered. (48 -> 40)
(+) Down Smash: Base Knockback increased slightly. (45 BKG Sour -> 50 BKG Sour)

(+) Forward Air: Startup decreased (Frame 15 -> 13)
(+) Hitboxes slightly adjusted to give the sweet spot a slightly bigger hitbox than previous.
(+) Back Air: Startup decreased (Frame 16 -> 14)
(-) Back Air: No longer grants less landing lag when landing right after the hitbox comes out. (This is slightly compensated by the general landing lag decrease of aerial attacks.)
(+) Hitboxes slightly adjusted to give the sweet spot a slightly bigger hitbox than previous.
(+) Down Air: Slightly decreased startup (Frame 18 -> 17)
(+) Down Air: Slightly increased knockback (35 BKB/29 KBG -> 38 BKB/33 KBG)

Idk if this’ll be considered a nerf or buff. Buff because it reaches opponents faster, nerf because it actively stays out a shorter amount of time.

Yeah, I don’t know why it was this high either.
(+) Side Special: Hitbox adjusted and increased. Now mostly a disjoint.
(+) Side Special: Increased damage output: (All deal 7 -> Tap deals 8;Hold deals 10;Flick deals 9.5)
(+) Side Special: Increased knockback on Tap (50 BKB/55 KBG -> 50 BKB/60 KBG)

(+) Up Throw: Decreased end lag.
Patch 0.0.3 - The "OMG another patch!" patch[]
I’ve gotten a couple of notes about An’s lack of KO power in Fraymakers. While she was intended to have lower KO power than other characters, she did struggle a bit too much to KO opponents. This patch will hopefully buff those sorts of moves, as well as fixing some other things.

(-) Down Special: Hitbox removed on Grounded TV disappearing.
(While experimenting with this new patch, I found out that using the down special right as An landed on the ground will immediately bring her to the portion of the animation when the TV disappears. Since this move’s hitbox comes out on Frame 1 of the animation, this would give An a Frame 1 landing option that’s also able to be jump canceled. While this was fun and entertaining at first, I felt as the option could be too strong in most situations, thus the hitbox on the grounded version of the TV disappearing was removed.)
Throws:
(+) Forward Throw: Faster Animation.
(+) Forward Throw: Damage increased (8.5 -> 9.5)
(+) Forward Throw: Knockback increased (55 BKB/60 KBG -> 65 BKB/74 KBG)

Trivia[]
- An Shiraishi is Mizu's first ever pixel art and pixel animation to ever be revealed to the public.
- On February 3rd, 2023 at 7:03 PM EST, Mizu posted a picture of An Shiraishi in her origin game asking "Who needs tomato on a burger when they already have ketchup on them, anyway?" This caused a bit of a debate in the #custom-content-general between a couple of users on whether tomatoes belong on burgers or not.
